Sylvia and Harper | December 2018

Date December 18, 2018 Author info@adoptontario.ca Categories Monthly Profile
Back

Sylvia and Harper are two sisters who love all things Disney and being read to before bed. They know all of the Disney Princesses with their favourite being Elsa and Ana from Frozen.

Older sister Sylvia will walk the shelves of the library picking out the books she wants to. Her preferred time for stories is at night, right before bed when she can pick out one of her favourite books! She has a hard time narrowing down her favourites to just one though!

Harper has similar interests but also loves being outdoors and going to play centres. Her favourite show is Paw Patrol. She has all of the characters in stuffed animals from Police Officer Chase to Fire Fighter Marshall! That is quite a collection!

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
Personality Academics

Harper and Sylvia love each other, although their relationship can be competitive. They are both affectionate and do well with lots of routine, structure and consistency. They are both very loveable and sweet however; do need a family to keep up with their high energy level.

Sylvia has many interests in school but does require support when playing with friends. She does well with individualized attention and support with her developmental needs. Sylvia continues to work on her language and social skills.

Harper enjoys the social aspects of daycare where she can play with her friends and has just started school. She enjoys individualized attention and does need additional support in developing her language.

Special Considerations Matching Considerations

Sylvia will need ongoing support with her development as she continues to grow. A family for Sylvia will need to be open to the impacts of potential prenatal exposure and the impact on attachment as a result of early life experiences. She is currently receiving support around behaviour management and some of her behaviours have improved.

Harper has been exposed to alcohol prenatally; this has resulted in delays in all areas of her development particularly in the area of language. Although she does not have a formal diagnosis at this time, a family will need to be able to advocate for resources, and provide ongoing support for Harper.

These bubbly sisters will need a two-parent, AdoptReady family who will be nurturing, have a high-energy level and be strong advocates for them throughout their lives. Sylvia and Harper will need to be the youngest in the home with any other siblings being much older in age. Sylvia and Harper would do best with a family who have an openness and understanding of children exposed prenatally to alcohol and the long-term impacts this can have on their development and day-to-day functioning.

Openness Questions?

Sylvia and Harper currently have monthly access with their siblings. Future openness will be determined once the children are placed in their adoptive home.
