Back

Zachary is a cheerful young boy who absolutely loves to play his favourite game: hide and seek! Like most boys his age, he likes to play outdoors swinging, running, playing tag and swimming. When not outside, Zachary enjoys writing and colouring – especially in colour by numbers books – and drawing plants. He has two comfort items that he loves more than anything, and those are his blue blanket and his Zeenie doll. These two items mean the world to Zachary, and he keeps them nearby at all times! When he's ready eat, his favourite foods to munch on are Kraft Dinner, hot dogs, spaghetti, scrambled eggs and McDonald’s hamburgers.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
Personality Academics
Zachary is easy-going, happy and engaging, although he can initially present as shy until he becomes comfortable. He is easily able to interact with others and has a good sense of humour. Zachary requires a very consistent and structured routine in his daily activities. New environments, changes to his routine, new people and loud noises can be difficult for him. He uses noise reduction headphones when exposed to large crowds or busy environments. Zachary is currently in a French Immersion program and is supported in the classroom setting through an educational assistant. He has adapted well to the routines and schedules of the classroom, and is an intelligent and curious student. Zachary has very strong literacy and numeracy skills and loves to learn. Transitions can be difficult for him, however once routines are established he does well following expectations.
Special Considerations Matching Considerations

Zachary can become easily frustrated at times and will have temper tantrums during these periods. His caregiver reports that despite these temper tantrums, he is easy to settle and will often go to a quiet area such as his room for a time out on his own to calm down. Zachary has some sensory needs that causes him to dislike certain foods. He is currently prescribed medication to assist in managing his hyperactivity and behavioural needs. He is also supported by several community services including speech and occupational therapy monthly. Recently, Zachary transferred to some additional services for support on social emotional regulation strategies, and he has received a block of supports through ABA services in the area of emotional/social regulation strategies. He did remarkably well with the supports and as a result, his name was placed on a list to receive another round of services.

Zachary would do best with a strong family who will be fully committed to parenting a child who requires a high degree of support and assistance with day-to-day activities. Ideally, Zachary would do best in a two-parent family with no siblings or older siblings by at least five years. A family will need to have a high energy level and a great deal of patience. They will also need to have strong advocacy skills to support him in reaching his fullest potential. Zachary currently has a good attachment to his foster parents and other children residing in the home.
Openness Questions?
Zachary currently has access with his birth father. He also has an older brother who has been adopted and there has been some contact between the his brother's family and the foster family. Some form of continued contact would be beneficial to the siblings. Please see Zachary's profile on the AdoptOntario Waiting Children list with the case ID 15998.
